So delighted to receive the 2024 Second Place Award by Grey Cube Gallery acknowledging two of my works on paper in their international “Green” online contest. Out of all entries, 85 artworks were shortlisted for inclusion in the show. The show encompassed a range of artistic styles and mediums (oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, ceramics, photography, digital art). Each submission was judged based on the following elements of artistic expression: originality and quality of art, overall design, creativity, interpretation of the theme, demonstration of artistic ability and usage of medium. The competition attracted entries from many countries across the world: South Korea, USA, Poland, Portugal, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, China, Germany, Slovenia and Ireland. A slideshow is available on Grey Cube Gallery’s YouTube page.
These works are two favorites: EXHUBERANCE, a woodcut depicting natural forms, and, BREAKING GROUND, a drypoint inspired by my home, Brooklyn, a place of constant growth – the juxtaposition of hard-edged buildings escalating ever taller with the trees and plants growing in parks, along streets, and in sidewalk cracks despite all odds.
