A joy to learn from and study with printmaking with Master Printer, artist, curator and collaborator Kathy Caraccio, and delighted to have a piece of my work in her major print collection.
In this photo, Kathy is teaching a technique used by Japanese Woodblock Printmaking (moku hanga), which she learned from Japanese master printers in a year-long study in Japan.
Working in the Japanese tradition there is no press. Rather, we apply the water-based ink (a watercolor paint) with a brush and print by hand (using a baren). The ink (or color application) is done by pressing deeply into absorbent paper. This class is one of my many wonderful experiences learning from this extraordinary teacher, mentor and great lady.
