“It All Fits” 2023, collagraph print, 19.6” x 28.6”
440 Gallery: Congratulations Carol @carolmorrisonart Tell us something about your piece “It All Fits”
Carol Morrison: This may look like an aerial map, but I don’t read maps, nor do I use GPS—I don’t even drive. My maps are built from decades of walking these New York City streets. Walking, and my maps, are an experience of chaos and composition.
440 Gallery: What does “Mapping” mean to you?
CM: Art is my map, the conduit for finding my way. Art allows me to make choices about what wants to come through me. Art allows me to travel at a safe distance from others—a space ship of rescue, comfort and security that also dares to fly.
440 Gallery: Do you enter a lot of juried shows? What do you consider when you enter a show?
CM: No, for the last 7 years, I have focused on learning my craft, printmaking techniques and exploring the medium. Submitting work is new for me. I submit my best work, images that excite me and are developed with regard to technique, composition and execution. I also research the gallery, see who is represented by them, and look at previous shows online, if possible.
440 Gallery: What else do we need to know?
CM: I’m proud that my woodcut “Every Inch” will be exhibited at Prince Street Gallery’s 15th Annual Juried Group Exhibition in August. Come see the show @prince_street_gallery
