BEHIND THE SCENES: COMING OUT

VISCOSITY PRINTMAKING: sounds complicated but it is also known as “simultaneous color printing” and came out of a discovery at Atelier 17 in Paris in the 1920s. I am studying with Kathy Caraccio who has a phenomenal ability to execute this technique. The main idea is that tacky ink on a roller will pick up a thin layer of oily ink - and they “resist” each other. This gold and red is a combination I might not have tried or thought of—but this method gives each its due. The smaller image here, is a closeup of the process, with the gold “laying on top” of the red ink. It’s a great experimentation and not limited to two colors either.

This work on paper available for sale, as is all work not marked otherwise.
