BEHIND THE SCENES: The rainbow roller is a technique used to blend two or more ink colors rolled onto the plate—in this case my woodcut. With the rainbow roller there is a transition that happens between ink color that is something of a mystery--its own magic that creates smooth gradient changes between the ink colors. Within those parallel lines ( l l ) on the table, marking where the ink color will be, there is a tiny hint of white added (creating a subtle glow in the final work). That’s the brilliance of working with a master printmaker like Kathy Caraccio. And I’d like to think my woodcut too, helped make this piece one of my favorites.
