BEHIND THE SCENES: This is the plate—the board—from which the print is made. The first is the board inked up in Paynes Grey. The second is the board au natural. And then the print coming off the press. I have been focused on these 20” x 30” collagraph plates—but thinking about working on several small boards at a time—maybe 8” x 10” as studies for these larger pieces. (A collagraph is basically a collage which uses various elements [mine is made from cardboard, aluminum tape, masking tape, plastic [that I melted into the board —and ruined my cutting board (lol)], magazine paper and old prints, and all kinds of textured pastes—trying to achieve a wide variety of textures.) These materials are glued to a mat board and shellacked. And shellacked. And shellacked—then off to be printed. I was very pleased with the outcome here.
